Our first tickets! Part of the #MyFirstTicket Kids Up Front Campaign
Kids Up Front Calgary is celebrating 15 years of service to the community this year and have launched a campaign to get people talking about their first ticket experience. #MyFirstTicket is a fun campaign and is also a fundraiser to keep the program running.
Most people are submitting their stories via video, but we prefer to write. Check out what our team’s first tickets were!
Mal’s first ticket was…Vans Warped Tour in 2004
It was…dusty, loud and worth every penny that the grade 11 punk version of me could save.
Rob’s first ticket was…AFI in 2003
It was…so horrible–OMG. Imagine a cute 16 year old gay (and I mean super gay) kid wearing cargo shorts and a bright yellow T-shirt surrounded by goths moshing to music about murder.
Lindsay’s first ticket was…Britney Spears in 1999
It was…amazing. Pre-2007 Britney was the best Britney. Also, I was shopping before the concert and I saw her a Claire’s getting her ears pierced. Still a highlight of my life.
Molly’s first ticket was…Shania Twain in 1997
It was….two hours of nonstop 90s Shania greatness…it did impress me much.
Stephanie’s first ticket was…Backstreet Boys in 1998
It was…absolutely everything my tween heart could handle. Flash forward almost two decades and 5 concerts later and I am still seeing their shows!
Martha’s first ticket was…Jann Arden at the Aitken Centre in Fredericton, NB in the mid-nineties
It was…right at the peak of her Good Mother/Insensitive days. I remember her talking about her boobs and being absolutely mortified/terrified/confused because I was a preteen.
Elyse’s first ticket was…Sharon, Lois and Bram in 1996
It was….embarrassing (at the time) but once in a life time. My mom bought tickets for me and my sister to go see Sharon, Lois and Bram. Growing up I loved Sharon, Lois and Bram and the Elephant (as any Canadian child does) but I was probably a little old to be going to the concert of the musicians I adored when I was 3 years old. My 5 year old sister was much more stoked on it while I was trying to be the cool kid and not tell my classmates about it. But Sharon, Lois and Bram got the Jubilee Auditorium rocking and rolling and me singing along to every song. Sadly, Lois passed away earlier this year, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of all the kids who can still remember the words to Skinnamarinky. When is CBC going to start putting re-runs of The Elephant Show back on the air?
Jes’s first ticket was…not the Backstreet Boys and therefore forgettable and a tragedy.
